“With several albums released in Brazil, the ruggedly handsome Roge was selected to host 10 mini-documentaries about Brazilian life for ESPN to use during World Cup coverage.” -The Huffington Post
“There’s a deep well of African-funk in the samba-tinged songs of Roge. The bass lines pull you in, while the horns punctuate the rhythm. Roge rides the beats with a voice both husky and fleet.” -New York Daily News
Roge represents the new generation of artists from the Brazilian Popular Music movement. His sound is the carioca face of Brazil. He plays a groovy kind of samba and moves effortlessly from bossa nova to samba to reggae with the ease of a prolific composer.
His compositions create a fusion of all these rhythms producing a unique and fresh sound. He and Arlindo Cruz (one of his most frequent songwriting partners) composed the theme for the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio and the 2014 World Cup’s Mascot theme. Another frequent collaborator is Seu Jorge (well known for his ‘Life Aquatic’ project), who recorded many of Roge’s songs on his most recently project, ‘Musicas Para Churrasco I e II’.
Roge released five solo works in Brazil – ‘Rogê’ in 2003, ‘Brasil em Brasa’ in 2008, ‘Fala Geral’ in 2010, ‘Brenguele’, 2012 and the live album ‘Baile do Brenguele’. The latter two were produced by Kassin, from the project RED HOT IN RIO that over the years has sought to create a sound that synthesizes the purity of each rhythm by intertwining and merging Brazilian music references. His music is life affirming and appealing, a laid back kind of samba that emerges as the soundtrack of modern and flourishing Rio de Janeiro.
In 2014 the master of music Seymour Stein signed Roge to a deal with ADA/Warner Music Group to release his recognized and praised album BRENGUELE worldwide. Shortly thereafter, the live album/dvd was released in Brazil through Warner Music Brazil.
Roge was the “ambassador” for ESPN’s 2014 FIFA World Cup coverage. ESPN captured his lifestyle, behind-the-scenes moments, sound checks and live performances in Brazil and abroad for almost 2 years. The material was then used to tell the story of Brazilian culture through his eyes.
After his 3rd appearance at SXSW Music Festival (2011, 2012 and 2013), he performed in New York at the legendary Joe’s Pub and was invited to play at Brasil Summerfest July 2014, alongside a tour throughout Texas.
Roge and Seymour Stein are working on a new album that will be recorded in the US next year (followed by a tour through the main clubs in America), to be released on the second semester of 2015 as a part of the preparations for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
